Punjabi Migration to Wolverhampton : A Photographic Journey 1960-1989

Anand Chhabra will present the research behind the Apna Heritage Archive which impacted the City of Wolverhampton and the Punjabi Community in the UK and Beyond. The talk will reveal how a displaced Indian community (over 40,000 Punjabi Indians) in the City of Wolverhampton developed from their formative years of migration between 1960s-80s and what impact they have had in the Black Country region of the UK. The talk will also feature individual stories to provide context to the archive and the resulting impact of the exhibition in the city.

Anand will also have time to browse the physical photographs of this displaced community and allow time for people to respond with questions they may have regarding migration.

Anand Chhabra is a Founder and Chair of the Black Country Visual Arts (www.bcva.info) and has received a grant from the the British Council to research the family album in India. He has recently co-curated the Apna Heritage Archive exhibition at NOW Gallery London.
