Punjab Lalit Kala Akademi organised its Annual Art Exhibition / 2018 at its gallery at Punjab Kala Bhawan, Sector 16 B, Chandigarh, India from 26th July to 1st August 2018.
It was inaugurated by art critic, poet and cultural theorist Ashok Vajpeyi.
Artworks by professional artists, student artists and senior artists from Punjab and Chandigarh, carefully selected by the judging committee and selection committee, were on display during this much awaited art event of the year in the region.
Total 116 artworks by 88 artists from Punjab and Chandigarh were exhibited in this exhibition. 30 artworks by invited artists, 43 artworks by professional artists and 43 artworks by student artists were on display.
Total 8 awards have been given in the competition section. In the professional section three Awards of Rs. 50,000/- each have been given to Mr. Amarbir Singh from Mohali, for the sculpture titled “Birth of an Artist; Mr. Jaspreet Singh from Akkanwali, Mansa for the painting titled “Life of My Village” and Ms. Manjot Kaur from Kharar for the drawing titled “Growing Smaller”.
In the students section five Awards of Rs. 25,000/- each have been given to: Mr. Gurjeet Singh from Algon Kothi, Tarantaran, for the sculpture titled “Lady with Pink Lips”, Ms. Gurneet Kaur from Kharar for the painting titled “Games of Life”, Mr. Gurpreet Singh from Badhni Kalan, Moga for the sculpture titled “Blood Diamond”, Mr. Gurpreet Singh from Khanna, for the drawing titled “Mere Supniyan vich mera Ghar” and Neha Gupta from Baltana, Zirakpur for the painting “Isolation”.
The two person jury consisting of internationally acclaimed artists Mithu Sen and Sonia Khurana from Delhi, recommended the names for awards for Annual Art Exhibition 2018 and the artworks displayed in the exhibition.
Total 420 artworks were received in the competition section for this exhibition.
231 artworks were received for Professional category out of which 43 works were selected and 189 artworks were received for Student category out of which 43 works were selected.
Artists from Punjab and Chandigarh were requested to submit entries in the disciplines of painting, sculpture, graphics/print making, photography, drawing, mixed-media, installation, video installations and other related discipline.
Along with these selected artworks, Akademi invited senior and established artists to send their artworks so that the Annual Art Exhibition becomes truly representative of the art created in the region in recent years.
Punjab Lalit Kala Akademi organizes its Annual Art Exhibition every year to encourage talented artists by giving awards and also by showcasing the art created in this region.
An aesthetically designed and professionally printed 204 page catalogue with the reproduction of all the artworks represented in this exhibition, portraits of all the participating artists and detailed report on all the programmes organised by the Akademi since January 2017 till date, was also released by Ashok Vajpeyi and Diwan Manna, President Punjab Lalit Kala Akademi on this occasion.
Apart from Chandigarh the exhibition was also taken to Jalandhar from 5th to 7th August 2018 at the Stya Paul Gallery, Virsa Vihar, Jalandhar.
