Annual Art Exhibition
The Annual Art Exhibition of the Punjab Lalit Kala Akademi is representative of the art created by artists of Punjab and Chandigarh. A range of ideas, emotions, techniques, mediums, philosophies, come alive at the Annual Art Exhibition of the Akademi, which was organised in March 2017 and had on display 92 works by professional, student and invited artists. The Akademi attempts to include all mediums and disciplines within the purview of visual and plastic arts such as painting, sculpture, drawing, printmaking, photography, multi-media, installation, and mix-media art in the exhibition.
In order to keep pace with the requirements of the changing times the awards money has been increased from Rs. 21,000/- to Rs. 50,000/- each in professional category and from Rs.11,000/- to Rs. 25,000/- each in student category. There were three awards in each category, with artists Sudarshan Shetty and G R Iranna recommending names for awards and for participation in the exhibition. In the professional category Aman Sohal, Gaurvi Sharma and Rahul Dhiman won awards, while in the student category, Shivani, Ramneet Kaur and Surinder Pal Singh were awarded for their works.
Many works exhibited here are a result of a reflection of the times we live in, a comment on the changing face of our land and society, death of democracy, concerns about deteriorating environment, memories, special moments, scenes from nature… Many artists experimented with form, material, mediums, and textures in their work. The showcase also offered art lovers a chance to view the new works of 32 senior artists in the invited artists’ category.
